The Fitting Worth Looking Up At
There is a version of this purchase where you replace a ceiling fitting and nobody notices. That is not this fitting. The CL755G has an antique brass frame with radiating arms, each ending in a clear glass rod that catches and scatters the light from E14 bulbs. In daylight it is a piece of architectural decoration. After dark, the glass rods refract a warm ambient glow across the walls and ceiling in a way no opaque shade produces. It is fully dimmable with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer, takes E14 golf ball bulbs (not included), and is a Class 1 fitting requiring an earth wire. The antique brass finish settles naturally against dark walls, warm textiles and period details. The clear glass rods scatter rather than contain the light, changing the character of the room in a way most ceiling lights do not.
Specs at a Glance
- Materials: Antique brass steel frame with clear glass rods
- Bulb: E14 golf ball, not included. Warm white 2700K recommended
- Dimmable: Yes, requires a compatible trailing-edge dimmer switch
- Class: Class 1, earth wire required at the ceiling rose
- IP Rating: IP20, dry indoor rooms only
Room by Room, It Delivers
The CL755G is at its best in rooms where the ceiling fitting is visible and worth looking at: hallways where guests form their first impression, bedrooms where atmosphere matters as much as brightness, landings with a sightline from the floor below, and studies or sitting rooms with a dark or warm palette that benefits from the particular depth of antique brass. The clear glass rods mean it suits a room that already has some sparkle in it, whether from mirrors, gilded frames or other brass accents. For how to build a cohesive hallway scheme around a statement piece, the hallway lighting guide covers the approach in useful detail.
Decoration First. Light Second.
The ceiling of a hallway is rarely considered part of the decor. A plain globe, something chosen in five minutes to fill the rose and be forgotten. The CL755G asks you to reconsider that habit. Its antique brass frame radiates outward from a central body, each arm ending in a clear glass rod that refracts the light from the E14 bulbs within. Switched off, it is a piece of decorative metalwork with a geometric precision that gives a ceiling actual visual interest. Switched on, the glass rods scatter warm light across the walls in a way no frosted diffuser produces. For spaces where a brass accent is already part of the scheme, the industrial brass desk lamp sits naturally alongside at lower levels.
This is a decorative fitting, not a high-output workhorse. In a hallway or bedroom where atmosphere matters, that is the right thing to be.
What Clear Glass Rods Do
- They scatter light rather than contain it. An opaque shade pushes a single pool of light downward. The clear glass rods refract light outward in multiple directions, up toward the ceiling and across the walls. The effect is immediately more interesting than what any solid shade produces.
- They change the room at different times of day. In daylight, the clear glass catches natural light and the rods become part of the room's texture. After dark they pick up the warmth of the bulbs and throw subtle patterns onto surrounding surfaces.
- They make the brass frame the focal point. Clear glass does not compete visually with the antique brass. The metalwork, with its classic proportions and aged finish, stays the dominant element. The rods support it rather than distract from it.
- They dim beautifully with the right switch. Low, the glass rods produce a soft scattered warmth. At higher settings the same rods bring a livelier quality to an entryway or landing.
- They give the fitting presence when unlit. A frosted globe disappears when switched off. The glass rods and brass arms hold their geometry and quiet shine regardless of whether a bulb is running.
Why Antique Brass, Not Polished
Polished brass announces itself. It catches every light source in the room and draws attention to the finish rather than the fitting. Antique brass is different. It has been deliberately aged, introducing a depth of tone that settles into a scheme rather than competing with it. Against a dark-painted hallway wall it belongs. Alongside warm-toned textiles and timber furniture in a bedroom it becomes part of the palette. It also ages well. Minor surface variations that develop over years add to the character of the finish rather than marking it as worn. It is the difference between a fitting that looks right on day one and one that looks better after five years.
Every Room It Improves
A hallway where a plain globe has been doing the minimum since the house was built. A bedroom where the overhead light has never been worth switching on. A landing visible from the floor below that needs a fitting with some visual weight. A study lined with dark shelves and warm leather where a classic decorative ceiling light pulls the room together. The CL755G suits all of these because its design is strong enough to improve almost any ceiling it occupies without needing the room around it to be especially considered. For how to layer a hallway scheme around a statement fitting, the 2025 home decor trends guide covers the approach well.
What to Check First
- This is a Class 1 fitting, earth wire required. Class 1 means the fitting needs an earth connection. Before ordering, confirm your ceiling rose includes an earth wire. Many UK properties do, but some older homes do not. If you are unsure, check your existing ceiling wiring first.
- Bulbs are not included, E14 golf ball socket. The E14 is the small Edison screw, not the same as the E27 in most table lamps. Choose warm white at 2700K to complement the antique brass and give the glass rods a warm tone.
- Dimmable, but requires a compatible switch. Fully dimmable with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer. On a standard on/off switch it runs at full brightness only. For a bedroom where a low atmospheric setting is the main appeal, install a compatible dimmer at the same time.

Honest Answers on the CL755G
Not antique brass at this depth of tone. What dates a room is flat, bright brass from the 1980s. Antique brass is different: aged, settled and considerably easier to place in a considered interior.
The bulbs are visible through the glass. This fitting shows its light source as part of the design. A warm white E14 golf ball gives the rods a golden warmth. If you prefer a concealed light source, this fitting is not the right choice.
For a hallway or bedroom used for ambient lighting, yes. This is not designed to replace recessed downlights. In a bedroom with bedside lamps, or a hallway that needs warmth rather than flood lighting, it performs exactly as intended.
Full range, but only with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer. On a standard switch it runs at full brightness only. For a bedroom where the low setting matters most, a compatible dimmer is not optional.
E14 golf ball bulbs, not included. The E14 is the small Edison screw. Warm white at 2700K gives the glass rods a golden tone that suits the antique brass. A cool white will undercut the warmth of the whole fitting. The woven seagrass table lamp pairs well in a bedroom scheme.
Class 1 means an earth wire is needed. Check your ceiling rose includes an earth alongside live and neutral before ordering. Most UK homes built after the 1960s do. Without one, this fitting cannot be safely installed without remedial wiring.
Worth checking. At 3.7kg this is at the heavier end for a decorative fitting, though within the standard range. If your existing rose is old or poorly fixed, ensure it is securely anchored. This weight should be fixed to a joist or purpose-made backplate, not just into plasterboard.
The fitting drops a meaningful distance below the ceiling. In a standard eight-foot hallway it clears head height for most people, but measure the drop before ordering. In a period property with low ceilings, confirm the clearance is adequate.
More robust than they look, but still glass. The fitting arrives packaged to protect them. Handle with care during installation. Once installed and stationary, there is no meaningful risk of damage in normal use.

A ceiling fitting that doubles as a decorative object changes how a room is designed from the floor up. Understanding how antique finishes and glass interact with different room schemes helps you make decisions that last beyond a single trend cycle.
